Caroline's Life Introduction

 INTRODUCTION

Welcome! My name is Caroline and I'm a Health & Exercise major with a certificate in Pre-Occupational Therapy. This is my first introduction assignment of senior year, so here's to my first "last" of the year 👏

I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, and found that my passion in life is to help others reach their full potential. I was inspired by those who helped me along the way, and wanted to find a profession where I could use my interpersonal skills to better the lives of those around me; through this, I found occupational therapy. I've been working in volunteer/intern positions at Pediatric OT Clinic's for the past three years to ensure that this is the profession for me, and throughout my experiences, I believe I have found my life long career!

In addition to my passions, I also enjoy any and all things related to the outdoors, socializing, cooking, fitness, yoga, floral arrangements, and organizing. In fact, if you wanna check out my organization company on Instagram (@unclutteredbycaroline), I can help you organize your entire home! (I didn't mean for this to turn into a self-promo page, but hey, it's a huge part of my life and everyone could use a bit of organizational guidance).

My biggest accomplishment from the last school year was making the Arts and Sciences Dean's Honor roll. It was great seeing that my hard work was not altered by the uncertain circumstances that were thrown at us. Through receiving this award, I feel inspired to continue trying my hardest during my last two semesters here at OU, and the two years of graduate school, following graduation in Spring 2021. I'm excited to see where I will be this time next year, as I am in the process of applying to graduate school to earn my Masters in Occupational Therapy.

I look forward to interacting with you all via blog posts and making this online class enjoyable!

Best,
Caroline

  1. Hi Caroline! That is so cool that you have a home organizing company. I am one to keep my room messy, so I definitely could learn some tips on how to do better haha. Congrats on making the Arts and Sciences Dean's Honor roll! That is a tremendous achievement, especially with all the changes last semester. I hope you have a great semester!

  2. Hi Caroline!!
We share a lot of similar interests - I also absolutely love anything that has to do with the outdoors, being active, socializing, sports, health and fitness, nutrition, wellness and yoga! However, we do differ a little once it comes to organization... I am very type-A and organized, but my closet doesn't quite look like that. I am going to follow your instagram account so that hopefully you can teach me some new tricks! I'm very excited!

  3. Hi Caroline! I think that it is so great that you have taken steps as an undergrad to ensure that you are pursuing your true passion. I am also a pre-health major and have shadowed many different doctors yet still am not completely confident on what exactly I want to do. It's super cool that you have an organization company.. Any extra income right now is a huge weight off of your shoulders, I'm sure. Also, the picture of that closet was very satisfying to look at, as I am a perfectionist myself!

  4. Yeah for emojis in blog posts, Caroline! I need to write up a tech tip about that just to make sure people see how easy that is to do... because it is so fun also. Emojis are definitely a part of writing in the year 2020. And I hope this will be a good class for you; as you probably guessed from the growth mindset stuff in Week 1, I'm a believer in people exploring their untapped potential, trying new things just to see what might happen. And yeah for yoga: maybe you will want to learn about yoga's origins in India for this class! There is a beautiful book by Devdutt Pattanaik with the stories of the yoga positions... easy to snag as a Kindle, and there are so many fabulous stories in here (it's a perfect extra credit reading option now or something to read in the free reading part of the semester later): Yoga Mythology: 64 Asanas and Their Stories link ... and yay for decluttering! I'm pretty good at decluttering, but my husband not so much, although he's learning! Here's a beautiful cartoon about that from Grant Snider, literal and metaphorical decluttering :-) Grant Snider: Interior Life link

  5. Hi Caroline! Having your own organizing company is so smart, I am also big on organization. I love that you have found your passion, my dad was actually a health and excersise science major as well, but he decided to go the route of Chiropractic. My mom actually went to physical therapy school, though, so I have a bit of a connection to both. I am also a big fan of yoga as well! I am from Tulsa, and used to go to classes at my local gym all the time, but I haven't found a good place yet for Yoga here.

  6. Hi Caroline!

First of all, I would like to commend you on having your own company at your age. I respect that a lot because it's a lot of work having to balance a company and education at the same time. Congratulations on already having three years of volunteering and experience, a lot of my friends are still behind on that regard when it comes to applying to higher education.

  9. Hi Caroline!

Reading your blog post honestly gave me the motivation I needed to clean out my closet. I even tried color-coding like you but that was entirely too much so props to you! It is really cool that you found a passion in occupational therapy and found the right place to work/intern at. I love that you enjoy helping others as that is a trait you don't see on many people anymore! Hope you continue to excel at everything that you do!

  10. Hi Caroline,
It's so cool that you started your own organization company! It seems like there would be a lot of demand for a service like that :)
Occupational therapy sounds like a really interesting and important job, and I'm sure you'll help lots of people! Good luck on applying to graduate school!

  11. Hey Caroline! I am really into health and fitness myself! So much so that as of last year I do frequent research on diet and nutrition. I love working out, it is pretty much a hobby of mine at this point. Seeing that your career path falls in line with my hobby is really cool to see, I love getting to see new and exciting majors I have never heard about!

  12. Hi Caroline!
This may sound weird, but I got so much satisfaction from seeing your organized closet. I try to stay as organized as possible, but trying to fit all of my stuff that I've been piling since the beginning of college made it really difficult to organize everything as well as you. I've got some motivation to give it a go this weekend though so thanks!

  13. Hi Caroline!
If you ever chose to start writing more blogs for the class about organizational work, I would love to see more pictures. I thrive for that sort of stuff. I find that so admirable that you were able to take something like organization and turn it into a profession. The picture in your blog post is just so satisfying I fee like I need to go clean my closet out right now! Anyways, nice to meet you!

  16. Hey Caroline,
Very nice to meet you! First off, how much do you charge for a closet transformation? Thats actually really cool you are that organized. Health and exercise science was one of my other choices for a major but I decided to take the biology route. I am a big fan of dieting and nutrition because my mom is a bodybuilder and my family is big into working out and staying they healthy. Congrats on making the arts and science deans honor roll. Look forward to reading your stories.

    1. Hi Wesley, I appreciate the kind words! I currently charge $20 an hour for closet organization, but that can change depending on size and the number of clothes included in the transformation. Let me know if you're interested!

  17. Hi Caroline,
Becoming an Occupational Therapist sounds like an amazing way to help others! Good job on making the honor roll and good luck with the Masters. I also plan on getting a Masters and use it to further my career in the Air Force. I like your company as seeing things in an organized manner is aesthetically pleasing to me. Best of luck to you!

  18. Hi Caroline!
I have to say, I have never seen a closet so organized before. It is incredibly satisfying! No wonder you have your own company! It’s also super cool that you made the Arts and Sciences Dean’s list! That is no easy task! Also, congrats on being a senior, I am also a senior this year, so I can imagine how excited you must be!

  19. Hi Caroline!

I enjoyed reading your introduction post. I am glad you have had the opportunity to work in occupational therapy. Many people begin their internships or shadowing their junior or senior years in college, but it looks like you got a head start! That is always a great thing because now you know what to expect at the end of the tunnel. Furthermore, it seems like you are able to completely organize everything around you. It's pretty cool how you made an instagram just for organizations. I hope many people are able to learn neat things from you! Also, I am glad you want to give up your life just to better other's! Best of luck.

  21. Hi Caroline!

I loved your whole introduction, but the one thing that really stuck out to me was how you have your own business. That's awesome! It also sounds like something that's super rewarding and I would really just love to know what inspired you to get into it. Anyways, I hope that your life is going good right now. It was great to meet you!
