Week 9 Story: Hidima and Baka Remake

Hidima and Baka Remake

Chacha and Chichi, brother and sister were monsters who enjoyed eating others. Chacha made a plan to set out and eat the people in the city. Chichi transformed herself into a beautiful frog to win over the Panda brothers, and she unexpectedly fell in love with the Prince at first sight. Instead of executing her brother’s plan to eat them, she proposed marriage to the Prince and he automatically accepted. Chichi was so in love with Bhima that she uncovered her true identity and warned him of the threats that may come from Chacha. The Prince and Chacha get in a huge argument about their sister and get into a full-blown fight. Chacha tried to bear the strikes that the Prince made to his face and body but he could no longer bear. Eventually, Chacha was beaten to death by the prince, and he and Chichi lived happily ever after and have one child. The Prince continues to travel back to the city that his brothers, the Pandas reside in because there is another demon present. This demon is believed to be the spirit of Chichi because he was killed there and was a haunted monster when he was alive. To ensure that he ruins the lives of those around him, he made sure to come back and haunt the city of the Pandas by poisoning their food every other night. To his disguise, each of the brothers has a personal food tester exactly for this reason, so the Panda brothers were never harmed. To escape this city, the Pandas relocated to the kingdom of Peace to win over ChooChoo, the daughter of the King of solitude. They decided this would be the best idea in order to disrupt the chaos that has been following them since they met Chichi.

  1. Hi Caroline,
I don't remember reading this story in the Mahabharata! Maybe we read different versions. It is an interesting story, although it might clarify some things if you fleshed out the plot a little more (for example, why does Chichi have to turn into a frog?).
I like the names you chose for the two monster characters and for Choochoo, the princess of solitude. It might be helpful to add an author's note so that readers can distinguish between the elements that came from your source and those that are of your own creation!

  2. Hi Caroline!

I enjoyed reading your story for Week 9! After reading your story, I still couldn't recall which story you are retelling. Even without an author's note, your story was still great. I feel like there could have been some background information on the characters or maybe the plot. The story almost jumped right into the main climax, but there wasn't anything leading up to it. I would suggest mentioning why she want to fall in love with the Pandava brothers. If I recall, the shared wife amongst the brothers was Draupadi. Draupadi was won over through a contest, which Arjuna won using his archery skills. Nonetheless, adding some volume to the story would be extremely beneficial to the audience. I look forward to reading your revised version!
