Microfiction Drabble & Six-Word Story

Microfiction

The Terminal Train

It was 10:00 AM when Morgan realized that she was late for her flight home from a weekend of Halloween festivities. The Denver airport was calling her name as she entered her friends broken down Jeep with her travelmate, Caroline.

She checked her overweight bag and ran to the terminal train where "all doors closing” dinged and the doors slammed on her arm and she was separated from her travelmate. After her near-death experience, she arrived at gate C, but as the airplane doors closed, the trauma from the train caused her to miss her flight.

Six-Word Story

A flight missed = memory gained.

Author's Note: This story was inspired by the most recent travel panic that my friend Morgan and I experienced this morning after a weekend of travel. We visited two of our best friends in Colorado to celebrate Halloween and we got separated at the airport terminal train because the doors quickly shut and I was the only one who made it on the train. I changed parts of the story to add more drama to the story, and she didn't actually end up missing her flight, but I thought it would be a good way to end the panic-filled story. We both ended up making the flight and now we have the funny memory of almost missing our flight home due to the terminal train shutting before she stepped on the train. Although no one got hurt, we will now be more cautious while entering terminal trains in the future.

  1. Hello Caroline,
How fun that you were able to travel to Colorado for Halloween! I'm so jealous, and i'm sure the weekend was filled with so many fun festivities. I like how the microfiction feels more like a blog post update, and that you drew inspiration from your personal life. Travel can definitely be stressful, especially when you have no idea what you're doing (which is how I feel every time I visit the airport!).
