Week 12 Reading Notes: Garuda-asana

 Garuda-asana

Characters:

Vishnu (M) "made Garuda his vehicle and his symbol"

Garuda (M) "King of the birds" holds integrity

Vinata (F) "enslaved by Kadra and her serpent children" Garuda's mother

Kadra (F) Vinata's sister

Asanas:

Garuda-asana "the Eagle pose"

Important Phrases:

Garuda holds integrity because he held the pot (Kumbha) of the nectar of immortality (amrita) in his beak but did not sip from it, as it did not belong to him.

The serpents demanded the pot of nectar for her freedom.

Vishnu sleeps on a serpent and rides the eagle (both are natural enemies)

Vishnu works with both predator and prey, which is why he is the preserver.
